[Rhodes22-list] 175 Genoa/Whisker Pole

Slimmeister,
The pole is ultra light. I would guess that it doesn't weigh more than five
pounds. It has very little effect on the shape of the sail. In very light
air I pole it out so the sail is almost tight and use both genoa sheets to
control the sail. It works quite well. One day last year Captain Keller and
I were on a downwind run on the big end of the lake going wing on wing. Both
of our main sails were on the inside. We were able to keep the ends of our
booms one to two feet apart the entire run which probably lasted forty five
minutes. It was incredible sailing that close together for as long as we
did. Winds were probably in the 6 mph range if I remember correctly.
The whisker pole is probably to light for what we use it for, but if it
breaks it's easy to replace ($) unlike a more expensive spinnaker pole. The
light weight also makes it very easy to deploy and retrieve. I've had mine
for two years now and haven't lost it over board (my greatest fear) or had
it break in a strong wind. It does the job just fine. I'm able to store mine
on the port side storage area in the V berth.
