Lee,
The curvature of a small jib is very important( not either flat or floppy) in tacking or coming about in the conditions you describe It should curve in the opposite direction as you get about 1/3 through your turn so it helps to pull the boat around on the new heading. Don't change the jib sheet too soon to reset the jib. Almost let it do it by itself. Would you agree Rik?

  Lee,

  Anytime you decrease the jib size in relation to the main, your boat 
  will tack easier. By decreasing jib size and leaving the main out full, 
  you are moving the center of effort towards the stern (weather helm) 
  which will make the boat easier to turn into the wind.
