Hi Wally,

Unfortunately I have not sailed Raven since purchasing the 155. 2007 was a
very busy year. I managed to race my Tanzer a lot (see pic), but Raven
stayed at home. I'm now prepping Raven to stay in her slip in New Bern for
a good long time. Boats there do not have to be pulled in the winter. So
when I finally do fly that sail, I'll certainly let you know about it.

As always, the best sail for the conditions depends entirely upon what "the
conditions" are. I bought the 155 to optimize for PHRF racing in medium to
light air. Raven already has a very nice Doyle 135 for heavier air, so I
guess the next upgrade might be a furler that easily allows headsail
changes, like a Harken or a Schaefer. As an all around "one size fits all"
durable sail for cruising, the heavy weight 175 deck sweeper Stan issues as
standard equipment is probably a grteat choice for the way most R22 owners
use the boat in summer air.

A new list improvement? I think too much political talk turns some people
away from this list who, like me, are mostly interested in the list to read
and write about sailing Rhodes 22 sailboats. So, to make it easier for
busy Rhodies to turn off the political gong beaters, how about adding the
words "Sailing: xxxxxxxx" to the subject line for all posts that have even a
remote connection to the topic of sailing and the Rhodes 22 sailboat. This
should be viewed as a live and let live approach to allowing some to tune
out the noise on this list. Free speech is preserved. The bar atmosphere
is preserved.

What do you think?

PT

Hey PT, I hope all is well on your end. I don't really have time to follow
list closely and missed any follow up posts regarding your 155 genny. Do
your care to pass along any comments? I think you mentioned you purchased
from Cruising Direct? Did you try some type of dacron-mylar blend? Did you
get any type of shroud protection (pads?)? What is your take on luff pads?

I hope you don't mind ....you are one of the few who seem to understand that
there may be better options than a 170 I am actually thinking about a 160 (I
am not going to race) with non-sunbrella sacrificial strip to help maintain
shape and lighten the sail. I have a very nice Quantum 125 and a OEM GB 155
(blue & white striped) that is tattered and blown out. I am considering
getting the 155 recut to a 135 or 100 or make a riding sail for anchoring.

I am in the process of several updates including bottom paint, cushions. I
am also modifying a pop top enclosure I purchased used. (I am adding more
screens.) This fall we are going on a TN River cruse and I am trying to make
everything as comfy as possible.

I still get the list emails and generally just delete them all. I don't want
to miss your email so please send to me direct.... if you don't mind.

Thanks and Fair winds,

Wally
