We all lost, again. All because some of us feel the need to attack
newcomers.
Rob G was going to contribute his findings and commentary on gunkholing on
Albemarle Sound when he returned from his family vacation/sail
adventure:(http://www.rhodes22.org/pipermail/rhodes22-list/2008-July/052624.html)
He could have provided valuable contributions to this list.
Yes, Ed, by the way, Capt Rob G did announce that he is a teacher,
apparently a university professor. It is no wonder that he wouldn't put up
with your crap. He had found this list very informative and enjoyed the
tone. He went so far as to state in communication with you, Ed, "This list
has a nice close feel to it."
When are we going to change so that we may encourage these folks to add to
our forum rather than quit and run from it? The actions today may not
clearly violate the charter of the list - a personal attack. ("Posts to the
group are expected to be considerate of other readers. Personal abuse,
flames, and obscenities are *not* appreciated; but we are sailors....... "
from
http://www.nabble.com/List-charter.-Please-read-and-understand.-to18137134.html#a18137134)
I find it hard to see how actions such as these continue to fulfill the
focus of the list:
* Encouraging the understanding and discussion of Rhodes sailboats or
Rhodes sailors, in the many ways people wish to define it.
* Acting as a source of information for Rhodes sailboats or Rhodes
sailors worldwide and for people planning to buy/sell/repair/learn
about Rhodes sailboats or Rhodes sailors.
* Providing a forum for the development and promotion Rhodes sailboats
or Rhodes sailors' culture, history, traditions and economy.
Please note that today's episode was not based on a failure to tolerate
political discussions or other non-sailing postings but only on personal
attitudes.
Let's work to eliminate this sort of abuse, now.

And true to his word Rob unsubscribed right after that. It's a damn
shame... we continue to lose knowledge and experience due to
anti-social behavior. Regardless of whether anyone thinks he should
have stuck around and just ignored the crap, some (many) people just
don't want the hassle. And we are poorer for it.
Cheers!
