There is a history of the bow eye hanging up, hitting, etc. the bow stop.
Occassionally people have to replace the bow stop after the eye destroys it.
But, maybe that is why it is rubber?
I believe that I was shown to place the bow stop where you want the boat
placed forward when retrieving and then after boat is made ready for travel,
move the bow stop back away from bow to prevent rubbing during transport.
That information was from older guys from Edenton.
I would suggest that the problem occurs on steeper ramps where the boat
floats forward and going up ramp, the eye hangs up on stopper. I have
broken and replaced my rubber stopper. Again, history has shown this to
happen, especially on using different ramps.
As to the boat moving back away from position where you first placed it, it
has to do with 3000 pounds sliding back tightening strap on winch. Hand
tightening cannot match that force. So, if boat slides back beyond point
where you want it for the road, then before you even move to far up ramp,
back down to point where boat stern floats enough for you to reposition the
boat on trailer and tighen winch again. The second time that you move up
the ramp, you will find significantly less movement of boat - because the
strap was much tighter.
All these comments can be verified thru diligent study of the archives, as I
rountinely point out.
