[Rhodes22-list] noisy night

To you Rhodies that cruise or sleep overnight,
let me know your suggestions to quieting the
loud rhythmic clanking of the innermast furling.

The winds didn't quiet down until 3 AM our last
night out, and sleeping was nearly impossible.

I tried stuffing something inside the lower
part of the mast - it did nothing. Nor did
adjusting the backstays, raising or
lowering the topping lift, or tightening/loosening
the mainsheet.

Are earplugs the only solution?
