John,
We dodged a bullet here, others weren't so lucky. The total killed in
Memphis was 4 with 4 more in Arkansas. The roof fell in on the Sears store
about 10 miles away but no one was seriously hurt. An office building
collapsed and killed two and the other two were in two separate vehicles.
Pinnacle Airlines lost part of their hangar roof and we had some de-ice
trucks damaged at the airport. I'm heading for Mid-town this morning to
check on my other house and then to the Bonanza hangar to check for damage.
I had a bad feeling all day because the temperature was 76 degrees, a record
high, with a lot of moisture in the air. When the cumulus mammus started
rolling in about 5 pm and the surface wind was dead calm I thought, uh oh,
this doesn't look good. It wasn't. It was interesting to watch on radar and
eyewitness. When I posted at 5:36 there was a "classic" hook cell on the
local radar. That was the one that took the Sears store out.
