[Rhodes22-list] Tillerpilot (UNCLASSIFIED)

I've installed two ST1000s -- one pre and one post Katrina. It's a valued crew member on a lake where I might maintain course for hours at a time. I'll look for pictures to send along when I get home tonight.

Power drain isn't a concern to me at all. Think about how little force adjusts the tiller when you rudder is set correctly.

Col. Corley,

As no one else has so far responded to your question on list,
I'll take a whack, although I have yet to put my money where
my mouth is.

The ST1000 is well rated on other lists as well as this one,
both for function and reliability, on craft from 15' to 25',
although the latter seems to be pushing it a bit. Mounting
is relatively simple, and power consumption, while not
neglegable, is also not outrageous.

The ST1000 remote control is a big plus, allowing you to make
minor course corrections while hiding behind a pop-top
enclosure. Using the tiller-to-motor link, you can also keep
a course when under power.

The Simrad also works. I can't speak against it.

It has been said that an autopilot or windvane is equivalent
to having another hand on board. One or the other is in my
near future.

/Robert
