Hi Stan,
I haven't been following this thread completely so I can't help with 
auto re-sizing, but I have learned a couple of things
about sending pictures or anything else.  I never rely on the "send 
email" thing from within Windows programs.   I've
never had good luck with it.
Somewhere in your email program, Outlook, Thunderbird, whatever, there 
should be a menu item or tool with which
you can attach files to your emails.  This tool often looks like a 
paperclip.  Click on this and it will allow you to browse
for the file you wish to attach.  The kicker to this is that the file 
type must be something that the receiver can deal with which
is why pictures often are sent as .jpg files 'cause anyone can open 
them.  Most photo software should allow pictures to be saved as .jpg files.
