Hi Rhodies,
Happy New Year to all.
I have been following this discussion with interest, and Rick, your arrangement sounds simple, practical, permanent, elegant and easily doable for most single handlers.
Does anyone see a problem with a convex mirror permanently installed on the Trailer Post?

I permanently mounted a small convex truck mirror with a universal
pivot at the center of the mirror back plate onto the trailer post that
supports the winch, etc.
Before backing up the truck, I roughly
adjust the mirror. Then, its just a matter of looking at the mirror while
backing up to the trailer tongue until the hitch ball disappears under the
the coupler.
Been using for years and no fuss for a single-handed
hook up.
