[Rhodes22-list] Indian Winter

Funny that that would be in the Miami Herald and not a word in the Star Trib
here.  I guess we just sort of shrug it off.  What's the big deal of a
little subzero windchill?  Besides, from my experience I think the true "Ice
box of the North" is Grand Forks, ND.

There was a spoof of International Falls on the old Rocky and Bullwinkle
cartoon.  They were always referring to Frostbite Falls, MN.  At one point
the producers of the show decided to travel to northern MN, buy an island in
the Lake of the Woods, name it Frostbite Falls and then secede it from the
union making it its own sovereign nation.  They did their research, bought
the island and were on a bus heading for Washington DC to file the necessary
paperwork when the Cuban missile crisis broke out.  As it turned out
President Kennedy was in no mood for such foolishness and denied their
request.

True story.
