[Rhodes22-list] Flooring and Shelving

Hank,

I recently replaced the entire galley....  (as well as stringers and cabin
floor)

galley..
Used 3/4 marine ply for base and top... routed out thinner in spots to keep
weight down.
Used some cheap vinyl flooring w/ small brown/tan pebble design on bottom
shelf, white formica on counter top.
Used thinner ply on upper shelf and upper shelf front face, with mahogany
wood veneer stained to match rest of cabin.
Still deciding best material/finish for sliding doors.

stringers - used quartersawn douglas fir .. seemed to be what was there
originally.  

Floor - Used 3/4 marine ply, coverd with loose piece of vinyl flooring (same
pebble design as galley bottom shelf.

a good jig saw is all you really need to duplicate the shape, cutouts,
bevels etc, but a router helps a lot.  (and a good cordless drill/driver is
a must in my mind)

Also.. regarding the floor...realize that the hull shape changes from
trailer to water.  I prepped everything on land, but put it all together in
the water.  Result was I could not remove floor when on the trailer... Thus
be sure to leave enough space around edges so it can be removed in or out of
water. 
  
I also split the floor in two halves (lengthwise) so it can be taken out if
needed with much less disassembly of everything else... I reattach the two
halves with sturdy strips of 3/4 marine accross both ends. 

Thats about all i can think of at the moment..
