We had a similar post a few months back, but the current issue of Sail
Magazine listed these popular "modern" sailing songs. I was listening to
the best of Bob Seeger last week and was surprised that one of his hits was
about sailing.
Come Sail Away by Styx
I'm sailing away/Set an open course by the virgin sea/Cause I've got to be
free/Free to face the life that's ahead of me.
Sailing by Rod Stewart
I am sailing. I am sailing/Home again cross the sea/I am sailing stormy
waters/To be near you, to be free.
Orinoco Flow (Sail Away) by Enya
Let me sail, let me sail/Let the Orinoco flow/Let me reach, let me beach/On
the shores of Tripoli.
Sail On, Sailor by the Beach Boys
I sailed an ocean, unsettled ocean/Through restful waters and deep
commotion/Often frightened, unenlightened/Sail on, sailor.
Son of a Son of a Sailor by Jimmy Buffet
As the son of a son of a sailor/I went out on the sea for
adventure/Expanding the view of the captain and crew/Like a man just
released from indenture.
Sail On by the Commodores
Sail on, honey/Good times have never felt so good.
Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, and Nash
So I'm sailing for tomorrow/My dreams are a-dying/And my love is tied to
you/Tied with a silver chain.
Sail Away by David Gray
Crazy skies all wild above me now/Winter howling at my face/And everything I
held so dear/Disappeared without a trace.
