John,

I have cam cleats on my boat, and I've been very happy with them.

I always cross my lines around the winches.  I always maintain tension 
on both the furling and jib lines.  If I foul my furler once a year I 
had a bad year.

I changed my furling line after 9 years of use because I was 
embarrassed, not because it chafed.  Our lines shouldn't chafe 
anywhere.  That's not the way Stan builds his boat.
