John,
I have cam cleats on my boat, and I've been very happy with them.
I always cross my lines around the winches. I always maintain tension
on both the furling and jib lines. If I foul my furler once a year I
had a bad year.
I changed my furling line after 9 years of use because I was
embarrassed, not because it chafed. Our lines shouldn't chafe
anywhere. That's not the way Stan builds his boat.
