[Rhodes22-list] Mosquito Netting

Excellent!

We have some netting that I sewed in the rough shape of a pop-top
enclosure (mosquito netting from Defender, I think - probably also
available from Sail-rite). We put non-rusting chain in the "hem" of
the netting all the way around. We used it before we got the pop-top
enclosure and occasionally since when it's been too hot to use the
enclosure. I did that a long time ago. Since that time someone
mentioned that you can get ready-made netting designed to drape over
patio umbrellas. I think some of these have weighted hems. For the
general idea see:
http://www.amazon.com/Homevisions-Umbrella-Gazebo/dp/B0007XBQ9O/ref=pd_sbs_sg_title_2
or
http://www.amazon.com/GAZEBOS-50101050-MOSQUITO-NETTING-NATURAL/dp/B000OSS2BC/ref=pd_sbs_sg_img_1

I'm sure they would fit over the bimini. Not sure if they would also
fit over the raised pop-top.

If I were making a net enclosure again, I think I might start with
one of the umbrella nets and add onto it for the pop-top. I'd
probably do some of nipping and tucking to get it to fit reasonably
well so that we weren't carrying around a lot of extra material. I'd
use heavier chain - ours blows around to easily - and add a few ties
for corners (backstay chainplates, not sure what forward).

These are awkward if there is a chance of rain. The pop-top enclosure
is a much better solution long-term for most conditions. I've added
mosquito netting to the companionway door and I have a mosquito
netting insert for the front of it that is a work in progress.

If you want to get together and check these out, I think I can find
the netting.
