Hi Ed,
The marina I'm at is in Cedar Creek Sailing Center in Bayville, NJ. Please
call me at 732-501-6677. I could certainly use wisdom and advice. Directions
to LBI:
>From LBI…… Take Rte. 72 over the Manahawkin bridge. Bear right just before
the first traffic light and continue to the stop sign. Make a left and
continue for 0.5 miles. Take a right at the sign for Toms River/ New York
and follow for 2.0 miles. At the traffic light (84 lumber) make a right
onto Rte. 9 North. Follow Rte. 9N for 12.8 miles then make a right onto
Harbor Inn Rd. (across from Cedar Creek Campground). The marina is 0.5
miles on the right.
Btw, What you suggested is what I tried to do but at some point the
resistance was to great to turn anymore and left me 1/3 of the jib still
loose and was just to high to reach to tie down.
If you have time, I'd like to see if I can meet you.
Thanks,
Michael
Michael:
In an emergency a Genoa/Gib can be manually wrapped just by turning it back
onto the furler. Then use a short piece of line to tie it off so that it
does not come undone. Since you were up there already, that would have
allowed you to control the sail. Went thru this once with a CDI furler that
had lost a retaining pin in the take up reel. Easily fixed when no wind is
blowing. Save Rik's suggestions and take to boat with you.
A boat always should have sevel lines available of various lengths for such
situations.
Where are you in Barneget Bay? I expect to be on Long Beach Island on
Wednesday for a few hours. I will not have computer access.
