Brad,
Save the expense of the electricity and put a couple of coats of a good
acrylic (white for sure) roofing compound on the building. The stuff they sell in
the local hardware stores is oil based. (Read the label) You want a good
water based acrylic material. "Henry" company makes the best product. It's
available from any wholesale roofing supply company. Just check the yellow pages
or find a local roofing contractor that installs cool roofing systems and buy
the materials from him. Sherwin Williams also has their own brand. Five gallon
pail retail costs about $135.00, but that price can vary because of
materials costs these days. You can spray it on or use a roller. Don't buy the
primer because it's exactly the same material, just a different color. Each coat
should give you ten years of service. Two or three coats......you get the idea.
Henry also makes a seam sealer which is nice on seams, pipe flashing's and
bolts. It is easy to install and lasts a long time. Once the materials have
dried, try walking on the roof in bright sunlight. Even with sunglasses you
will find yourself squinting. It will keep your roof within 5 degrees of ambient
temperature. It will also work on metal side walls.
