[Rhodes22-list] POLITICAL-Palin Begins 2012 Campaign

Notes on Palin from a lurker -
1. She is reasonably intelligent, very politically savvy, and quickly
learning to be a consummate actress on the national political stage.
2. She helped the GOP ticket only with those who were most conservative and
would either vote for the GOP or not vote for a presidential candidate at
all. The article you so proudly cite says it all - 69% of GOP voters is
less than a third of all voters. The question that needs to be asked of all
voters is the one Rummy answered - did Palin's nomination influence you to
change your vote. I know that I had some thoughts before the conventions
that if Obama named Clinton as his running mate, I would be voting for
McCain. The selection of Palin made that a moot point, and assured my vote
went to Obama (my first vote for a democratic presidential nominee in my
life).
3. There are some basic things that will most likely preclude Palin from
becoming more than a showpiece that is trotted out to "energize the base".
Although she does not promote policies and laws with a religious agenda, she
does seem to have a religion based narrow world view similar to our current
president. The United States status in the world has been damaged enough by
this.
4. While she does have executive experience as a governor, it is Alaska, a
state that is rolling in revenues without taxation. Budget time is easy -
not many hard choices.
5. The final and, as I believe, the most important brake on her influence
on the national stage will be the behind the scenes power brokers in the
Republican Party. They are the source of the nasty rumors about the
clothes, the dumb answers in the briefings, and the attempts to remold her.
They will use her but not promote her.

This article lays it out pretty well:
