"upper shrouds have to be to the chain plates that are fixed the overlap of
the hull and deck. chain plates to cabin are not strong enough."

Stan,

So, if somehow I could reinforce the top of the cabin to attach the upper
shroud there, then it would be possible to do this. How much force those
chain plates should be able to withstand?

Luis,

One possible way to reinforce the cabin/deck and carry the load from the
shroud to the hull would be to re-locate/fabricate a bulkhead even with the
mast and cut to form fit the interior. the joint would have to be glassed in
along its' entire length and it should be cut in a symmetrical fashion so
there would be no distortion in loads when tacking port to starboard. To
install this you would lose the head and probably have to re-design the
interior as well. If you could consider a compromise would you consider
moving the shrouds to the corner where the cabin walls meet the deck.
Because of the flair in our hull it would be much easier and less intrusive
to make a pair of brackets to go from the new chainplate to the hull by
tying in the space between the deck and hull. The WEAK POINT of this is if
your glasswork on the joint is NOT PERFECT the loading from the mast could
rip the chainplate through the deck so be prepared.
