Yep. You are right.  Got my graduate degree in civil engineering without
writing a thesis, I took the non-thesis route which required me to take
additional classes and pass an 8 hour comprehensive exam.  Then, after
the required apprenticeship under the appropriate professionals, I took
and passed the professional engineering exam on first try, which is
somewhat uncommon.  And your point is??
