Herb,

The Lord works in mysterious ways! A co-worker of mine called me in
June out of desperation, his house closing was moved up a few days and
he had this hard luck story about how he needed this particular day
off and I had the day off and yada, yada, yada. "You cover this event
for me and I'll cover two for you in repayment". I covered the event
and told him he only owes me one day tit-for-tat and pick the day at
his convenience. He did. The day he picked was a ride with the guy
who wrote me up but we didn't bother to officially run the schedule
change 'up the flagpole' so I was officially the "hammer" in the
computer (I'm professional enough to call balls and strikes as they
are without personal rancor but maybe he wasn't so confident). The
day of the event, the 'vicitm' called in sick (I'm sure he was really
sick and it wasn't just a case of feeling uncomfortable) and after
scheduling called my colleague and listened to his story about how he
really didn't have the day off but I did, I got called in to cover the
event at time-and-a-half. The Lord works in mysterious, AND,
profitable ways.
