[Rhodes22-list] Poor throttle response

I had the same problem with our '96 9.9 Johnson a few years ago.
All it needed was the proper tensioning of the linkage between the twist grip and and the interior throttle to fix; was too loose so when I opened up the twist grip suddenly it gave the slack a hard yank, too much gas all at once, it flooded and stalled. At least that's what the dealer's technician said and seemed to make sense at the time.
My Johnson dealer tells me that they and Evinrude aren't making anything smaller now then a 40 horse and after reading about all the problems with Yamaha 9.9s Rhodies are having, I decided to replace the starter motor and spark wires and run the Johnson "forever."

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Poor throttle response
My 9.9 Yamaha has had a variety of starting problems. All seem to be fuel
related. I seem to have it cleaned out to the point it will start but still
have poor response from the throttle. Sudden acceleration will stall it..
slow acceleration is ok and I can get full throttle.. Does this seem to be a
mixture, fuel pump or other problem to anyone? perhaps automatic choke
issue ??
