Ed,

thanks for that link...I had not known about that site.

Luckily I do have some glorious shots of the Bahamas I could submit...have to scan them as they are film. VA & MD are outside their required photographic areas.

As far as equipment, until last year, I thought I was happy with my Nikon 8700; basically a point & shoot. I was doing well with it but getting frustrated that I could not record what I 'saw' in my head. It is quite good for macro and quick shots, so I always have it with me.

Howeverr, you may remember that last Oct I bumped the lens on this camera, putting it seriously out of commission a few days before I left for Italy......being my father's daughter, I had been researching the camera I'd hoped to move up to eventually...the Nikon D80 w/ the 18-200 VR lens.

(Flashback...more italy travelogues once winter sets in...)

Anyway, I had no choice but to go get it (darn!) as the other would not be repaired in time. I stayed w/ Nikon as I had two other really nice Nikkor lenses from when I shot film. I plan to get (eventually) either the Tokina 11-16 mm or the 12-24 mm wide angle as i like to concentrate on what's close.

(Remember that unless the camera has a full-frame sensor (in 35mm terminology), there is a conversion factor. With Nikon it is 1.5, as most digitals have an APS sized sensor (not the newer high high end ones). So an 18 mm lens is really a 27 mm lens, hence the need to go to a 12 mm (not a fish-eye).

So that is what I am currently using. The other folks on the workshop, however, had high end Canons and Nikons w/ huge lenses; they were after eagles and egrets at the preserve. And they got some beautiul images.
