[Rhodes22-list] Using Engine Hoist to Lift Boat Off Trailer

Jerry,

I got the attachment made and it worked like a charm. The only problem that I had was with the stand for the bow. I could not put it in place because I had one with a "V" and the bottom of the boat under the crotch of the trailer was flat. I was able to slide the trailer all the way out by going back and forth and bringing it out at an angle, and then I was able to place the stand under the boat. It took me about about 20 minutes to place the boat on the stand.

Now, the attachment my friend made for me was based on yours, but he modified it a little bit. He used 2' square tubing (It's a tight fit inside the hoist's arm), cut  along one of the sides, placed the round stock inside against the corner that was cut, welded the round stock and filled the seam, added more welding at the front of the unit to fill the space inside the square tube, then he drilled holes at the bottom of the unit to place the bolt that usually secures the chain through the unit.

I'll post some pictures.

Thank you very much for your help.

Bill,

I have read a post done by you explaining your method, but I already have the engine hoist and I think that it is less work to get it done using the hoist.

Previously, I had used the A-frames and slings available at the marina where I keep my boat, but that is not possible anymore. The EPA closed the work area until whatever modifications they requested are done. Because the marina is part of the neighborhood association, it does not have the money to be able to accomplish everything that the EPA requested, so it will be shut down for a long time.

I understand the EPA concerns for the environment, but I think that first priority should be the commercial operations. There are many of those around here that do not meet any of the EPA standards, and the volume of pollution produced by commercial operations could not compare to whatever is produced by the neighborhood marina. I do smell something fishy as I know there are many real estate developers salivating for this property (I hope that I'm completely wrong)

Luis,

I perform essentially the same operation with jackstands and $60 worth
of hydraulic "bottle" jacks.

It's written up elsewhere, somebody can point you to it if you are
interested.
