[Rhodes22-list] Bottom Job Nightmare

Help!

I put my boat on stands to do a bottom job and discovered several blisters. Also, I noticed that it had several layers of what look like different types of paint.

After removing the paint using a paint remover recommended by west marine and carefully scraping the paint, I could see that the gel coat is pitted. It looks to me like somebody had used a sandblaster to remove paint as I saw this happening to a friend's boat when he used a sandblaster on his boat. 

Now, I think that would explain the blisters.  

I have not looked into the archives yet (Take it easy Ed), but I need to find out how to repair the gel-coat (I can not remember how my friend repaired it on his boat)

I also wanted to remove the centerboard-trunk's cap, and after I removed the floor, I discovered that the cap was cracked (I don't know how the water was not getting in), and that 3M 3200 (I think) was used to seal the cap. In addition, after removing the small cap where the pendant is attached, I discovered that the pendant is pinched between the cap and the trunk (See pictures)

I'm going to have to make a gasket with neoprene for the centerboard trunk like I did for the '75 that I had.

Is there anything that could help remove the sealant without damaging the cap or the trunk?
