Jim,
You refer to the butane stove, which has been recessed into the counter top, I assume. Why pull it out, unless you risk close exposure with an inflammable surface, which should not be true in any factory installation. The stove cannister 'receiver' should be keyed, just like the cannister is itself. If not aligned, you will not have a torch, and consequently will have cold dinner. Now then, some summer meals are better cold, so just develop a liking for tuna salad...
