I want to thank those who gave their opinions on sailing the Rhodes
singlehanded in >15kt winds.
Today was another good example: I thought I might be motoring more than
sailing as the early forecasts were for 5 or less knot winds in the
afternoon. I ve been one to treat those VHF forecasts as very general and
thus found the wind coming up really nice in the early afternoon. Just
enough to have both sails up but only a small jib to practice with today.
Storms did show themselves by dusk in Bklyn, relief from the humidity and
heat at last!
As far as furling mains go, I have to say I enjoy the older style standard
main rolling up on the boom. I ve only gone out reefed once last week and
am still practicing reefing it as quickly as possible so I can do it in the
dark just in case:)
how many others of you Rhodies out there roll the main around the boom circa
the 1981 rig?
