Thanks for the welcome, Elle. Great group. Is your boat red? I have been
wondering about color. Stan thinks blue. I am thinking a wine-dark red.
Advice appreciated.

Ya 'done good', Frank.

Thanks, Dave.
Many thanks for the quick response. Stan is very high on the owners group,
and often says "ask the owners."
Background: I have sailed many years, going from small (I built and sailed a
Snipe-class boat when I was in my teens, owned a 30' Soverel--like a
Tartan--and most recently owned a 43' Schucker motor sailer). I received an
offer on my boat a couple of months ago and, acknowledging that I have not
been going on cruises lately, decided to radically downsize. This led me to
the Annapolis boat show and the Rhodes 22. I will be sailing at first in
the Potomac, with weekend cruises/overnights downriver, and then maybe
moving to the Bay. I work in Crystal City, VA, which is a very short bike
ride to the Washington Sailing Marina, so that is my first choice. I may
consider using the boat for the races held by the club that sails out of the
marina. I am 67 and relatively vigorous, hoping to teach my grandkids how
to sail. But the in-mast furling is a real attraction, as Stan suggests. I
have visited General Boats twice, and most recently commissioned Stan to
build a new Rhodes 22 (expensive, but covered by what I received for my
Shucker). I have had "project" boats for 20 years, and decided that a new
boat would be right this time. Hope I am correct.
I am planning to have Stan install any instruments.

Hello Frank. Welcome to the Rhodes list. If you tell us a little more
about yourself, the waters you will sail in and the types of sailing you
will do the folks here will be able to provide better advice. For example,
if you are sailing in coastal areas with narrow cuts and strong currents,
you will be advised to get a larger motor than you might need on a lake or
open bay. Also, if you spend some time searching the archives you will see
that there have been many discussions on these topics.
On your question on a depth finder, you can buy an in-hull type that shoots
through the hull, but you need to be sure not to mount it over the keel.
Are you planning to have Stan install it, or do it yourself after the fact?
Regards,
Dave
