It's almost winter, so we may as well deal with this issue. Frankly, it
doesn't matter to me that much which way we go but I would like to get it
settled to avoid arguments in the future. But Al's most recent missive
suggests we ought to talk some about this.

Is it the opinion of the people who post here that the posts should relate
to sailing only, or does the "anything that might come up in a sailor's bar"
model suit most of us best?

I agree with Al that the list should not become dominated by extraneous
stuff, but frankly I think allowing for friendly chatter helps us get to
know each other and might even create a synergistic bonding or fraternal
aspect that might encourage more socializing with our boats.

If posts about sailing slow down during the winter months folks might drift
away from the list and not be available when we need advice.

I also don't see the "clutter our mailboxes" argument as I get my list
digested and can pick and choose what I read. 

Frankly, when the political debates were raging during the election
knowledgable guys like Ed were available at a moment's notice to chime in on
the sailing stuff, albeit his advice was often "check the archives!!!"

I personally love the jokes, stories, and occasional sports references, and
other tidbits I learn about my fellow sailors. 

I propose a robust debate on how the list should work vis-a-vis subject
matter and that we informally agree that once a consensus appears the rest
of us tacitly agree to abide by it. 

I like the open-forum model. What do YOU think?
