Mid-Bay, Eastern Shore reporting in... most racing starts around the first
of May here, and mid-April is the launch for most of the boats. I've done a
little before that but nothing before the first of April. The water, as
noted above, is still pretty cold, and the occasional storm in March can be
rough. We've had a couple of ice storms in March as well over the years...
but sailing somewhere protected, like the Wye River off Eastern Bay might be
a reasonable compromise...
There's a landing off rt 50 at Skipton's Landing that accesses the Wye and
one at Claiborne that is in Eastern Bay but a couple hours sail into the Wye
and Miles River. Don't use the landing at Oak Creek off rt 33, as you
cannot pass a sailboat under the bridge without stepping your mast.
I assume you'll be sleeping on the boat. Night temps can be in the 30's
-40's; seldom lower, but expect cold.
Good luck!
