David,

Great job on the post repair! It look like the hatches and the new head
arrangement may have weakened the deck support.

Beckson recommends using only pure black specialized type of silicone - not
just any kind of silicone. Contact Beckson.com for details. Apparently
polysulfide or polysulfide mix products will dissolve the plastic in the
ports.

Suggest you search the archives to find the article Roger P wrote on port
light repairing.

Figure 4-5 hours per window, mostly scrpaing off old adhesive. On Raven, I
think the original windows were installed with something like GE 5200.
IMHO, a poor choice and it takes FOREVER to remove and clean a window.
Reinstalling is easy.

The forward/side ones mounted on the curve and the forward facing winds tend
to leak the most. I think it's fine to do one or two per year.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] Question About Re-bedding windows and hatches

Whenever I wash the boat deck, I always go inside the cabin and look for
water leaks. Well, today I found one. A forward window had popped a screw
and the window edge had pulled away slightly from the hull enough to leak
some water. I pulled the window out, scraped off the old bedding material,
applied new sealant and re-installed it. It is not a hard job to do, just
time consuming scraping off the old stuff.
My question is: My boat is 11 years old-should I preventively start pulling
the windows and hatches and re-bed them or just wait for leaks and then do
it? I would much prefer the later, but wondered what everyone else is doing
in this regard.

Thanks,
David
