You might do a dry run with 2 1/2 PVC pipe ~32" length to test the concept.  With the stub vertical, when using the GB transome crutch, you just need to lash the mast firmly so as not to be able to move fore and aft (as opposed to the roller config that GB builds in for greater ease of setup/teardown).  You can insure no movement of the stub top if the mast is immobile.  Side-to-side stability, just drill 3/8" holes on port and stbd of the stub, thread  1/4" line with an end knot and stretch down to the chainplates on each side (1/4" hole) and you should be in business.  You now have an R22 sloop, R22 riverboat, and RC22 camper.  For flying, stick to the Mooney...
