Stan,
I think you may miss the boat on this issue, and the willingness of some owners to help you out. In my first show ('06)as a volunteer helper at the R22 static display I did, in fact, use the forbidden term one time, that is one time only, and your brother promptly corrected me, so from then I did use the correct GB terminology.
You recall this is the show at which you failed to connect the trailer pin correctly and it disassembled and rolled partly back into Spa Creek, ruining my Gucci boat shoes. BTW, I don't recall this to embarass you, but rather to illustrate that even Stan can make errors once in a while. You are the skipper, the buck stops here.
You have consistantly allowed congregated owners at past shows. I have found the skippers in our fleet to be intelligent and sensitive and, if you agree that they are, could easily be briefed on the potential pitfalls before the show. You briefed me on all but the 'swing keel' misnomer before that first show. For example, you and Elton drew a picture from a past show of an unknown Rhoadie who was quick to explain that their own boat was for sale and would be a less expensive purchase alternative than one from GB. Now, guys, that is an obvious no-no, boo-boo, and contrary to the purpose for which GB has the static display. Stan, you never told me if this errant owner survived your swift and sure Karate chop to the larynx. Pity for him!
In the recent years of this bulletin board, you have sent wannabes to our list for edification and reinforcement, even when it was obviously being corrupted by the political venom of a few rabid members, one of whom was not even an R22 owner. The poison pen exchanges that took place, many of our owners can recall, drove new list visitors and wannabes (ones that you sent us, your prospects) away from our list frustrated, in fact have done the same with long-standing skippers who have not come back with us. Can it possibly be more risky to have Cowie or others participate in the show, in order to rally owner enthusiasm for the boat?
Don't miss the boat.
Rose for Ms. America!
