A sign of spring is the formation of what's called brash ice on Lake Erie.
Instead of large sheets of plate ice that endures in the winter, brash ice
consists of piles of chopped up ice that accumulates into geometric jumbles
due to wave action. Sort of pretty, but when north winds no longer blow
brash this way, it will be safe to launch.
