Mary Lou,

Better dust off some shelf space for all of your race trophies this year.

Rob,
What John had to say about the position of a centerboard would apply
to any board including the board known as the "diamond board". As
near as I can tell, Stan's advice about the diamond board has to do
with the shape of the critter. It is possible to lower it far enough
(by moving the knot on the upper part of the pennant)so that the
upper part of the board is exposed as it was in the pictures I posted
earlier. In particular see the pictures at:
http://www.rhodes22.org/pipermail/rhodes22-list/attachments/20090318/7827499

and at:

If I read what Stan is saying, this upper part of the board is not an
aerodynamic shape and will create excessive drag if exposed. Thus it
is indeed possible to have the board "too far down". I suspect we've
been sailing with the upper part of the board exposed for a long
time. It will be interesting to see if we see any difference in
performance. Of course we've also removed a number of layers of
bottom paint and smoothed the surface some. I'm hoping for good things.

I'm sure we won't approach the performance of the earlier lighter
weight boats and we still have that heavy motor on the stern.

Mary Lou
