Chris,
One of the BR design factors is for ventilation in the covered cockpit and/or cabin. The cross section over the transom is meant to be much bigger than it is over the cabin - like a scoop. If water conditions allow the boat to be anchored stern-to, this scoop shape acts like a verturi, and the cabin will be circulated with as much cooler outside fresh air as you will ever need. You may be able to fashion a similar scoop shape somehow. A good screening cover will be important to filter out bugs and moisture as the venturi effect could also multiply this.
