Hey Bruce,
Mackie's Marina is a cool place tucked back up a creek and right across 
the sound from Edenton.  Salmon Creek is close by and is a very neat 
anchorage, quiet and peaceful.  Edenton town docks are free and within 
easy walking distance of good resturants.
Columbia is a little farther up the sound but easily a one day sail, 
unless the wind is on your nose.  Columbia is not very far from Stan's 
creek if you are taking his demo boat.  Columbia town docks are free and 
in walking distance of good resturants.
Get chart 12205 which shows all the above places.
