The link the Chris posted for the winch says it can lift 1,700 pounds, so I doubt it's the weight of the motor.
Chris,
I see your strap appears to have slid towards the center of your boat and is not centered in the slot. Comments?

I have the electric lift on my new R22 2009 for a long shaft 8hp Yamaha
and so far this first season it has worked great. I typically let it
down all the way and then take up the slack. It is powered by my
non-house battery and I make sure I don't run anything else from this
battery to reserve power when needed. I think this is a link to the
