I see everyone but hubby and myself are going on friday.  I understand that is VIP day.  Can someone please tell what is the difference between the VIP tickets and the regular tickets other than the days.  I couldn't find anything on the boat shows website which basically explains what you get for the VIP tickets.   Thanks

Does anyone in the driving area of metropolitan Detroit have the Rhodes
22 mast lowering device, whether it be the old style or the new style?
My boat is an'88 model and has the u-shaped brackets on the deck which I
understand are for the old style. I live in New Baltimore which is half
way between Detroit and Port Huron but I could pick something up within
driving distance of 100 miles or so.

Stan,

Tilting sounds good.  Could I retain the engine tiller?  Got any pictures?

Terrific! Sounds like there is a group for Friday. Last year we had a
group for lunch at Pussers and then there ended up being a spur of
the moment gathering for dinner at Cantlers on the way out of town.
We've had good luck the last few years gathering in the morning at
the boat and counting heads. I was able to go over to Pussers and let
them know we had a group coming at one. Both times we didn't have to
wait more than 20 minutes or so for their large table.

Michael, do you know any more about the GB "event"? I know it's the
40th anniversary of the show so I assume GB has been exhibiting that long.

I'd like to see how it works. I put on paper a gin pole design that
pivots on the mast step bolt but having it built is close to Stan's
price and I know his works. I'm afraid my design puts too much
pressure on the 3/8" mast bolt. When are you planning to use it? Is it
plenty strong and foolproof? Would you be willing to rent it?

Michael,
Number one is correct. The north shore area is the best place to live.
Personally I like Evanston.
I'll let others with more knowledge answer the rest of your questions.
Great food and entertainment all the time in Chicago. You can get a steak in
Chicago like nowhere else. Pizza is a real art form and they have the  best.
Winters are cold, very cold. Temps below zero are common.
Driving in Chicago is more fun than taking a class at the Richard  Petty
driving experience in Orlando. Speed limits don't apply to anyone.

Its cold, very cold.  Sheridan, Wyoming is warmer.  I spent 30 years in each.
Don't forget Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Barriington,
Naperville, Hinsdale.  Look for the railroad at both ends.  Stay off the
road.

Michael,

I have lived in the Chicago area for most of my life.  I grew up on the
North Side (Evanston, Skokie) and we now live in Oak Park, west of the
city.

1)the towns  right above Evanston  (Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka,  Glencoe
Northfield) look the best for kids/schools/safety, is that  true?

Cost increases as you go North.  My niece just graduated from Evanston
(my alma mater) and had a good experience.  New Trier and Highland Park
have the best schools in the state.

2)what are the ticks for getting cheap/good docking, how the  gamed played?
The harbors in the city are owned by the park district.  The rates are not
terrible,
especially if you live in the city.  Slips are hard to come by, and you may
have to
spend some time on a mooring before you qualify.  I moor in Monroe harbor
  1) because it's cheap (~$900)
  2) Because it comes with parking downtown
  3) because the location is unbeatable with $1,000,000 views

3)are these town real ? hour into the  ?loop??
Not if you are driving.  Oak Park is about 20 minutes with no traffic and
30-40
in rush hour.  Trains are a good option.

4)any idea where to store the boat for winter?
I store my boat Michigan city
