Eileen,
My single hatch is over the head. It allows those of a certain sexual
orientation the convenience of standing up in the head. It also relieves
claustrophobia for everyone who uses the head.
Some boats have hatches on both sides. I prefer my single hatch arrangement
because the port side allows room for a solar collector and a solar driven
ventilation vent for when the cabin is closed up.
While you're in the cabin, you'll get all the ventilation you need by
opening the pop top.
