[Rhodes22-list] Quick question on hatch and pop top enclosure

Opus has two hatches and I like the symmetry, hey I am an architect and we like to have balance. The starboard hatch is a must for me in order to do my business. The Port hatch is easier to access than the starboard hatch since I don't have to open the head door to get to it so this one gets opened more often for general ventilation. The translucent hatches also allow light to enter the cabin. I would go with two hatches.

Lee,
With all due respect, Fretless has one hatch, starboard side and
hasn't tipped over..... yet.
I kind of like the asymetry. A hatch does add a great deal to the
ventilation. I think we put it on the starboard side because we have
opening ports and figured that between opening port and the pop-top
the port side of the boat would be well ventilated. The starboard
side has an opening port but the bulkhead blocks the breeze a bit. We
can tell the difference in the cabin when we open the hatch once we
are at anchor. On warm days the first thing we do once the anchor is
down is raise the pop-top, open the ports and the hatch. We don't
leave any of them open when sailing - have had water from powerboat
wakes over the bow and onto the cabin top often enough not to want to
risk everything below getting soaked. I might not bother with hatches
or opening ports if I was just getting the boat to daysail.
