Welcome to "da list."
Stan means well ... well he means ... Oh well, as we say in NY fagetaboutit!
Both he and you will get over it. You could butter him up by paying his
"loyalty fee" (5% of the selling price.) How much could you have paid for a
1980? Believe me, if the 5% seems to be a lot, you have no idea what a
sailboat will cost (BOAT, Break Out Another Thousand.)
As far as the trailer goes, do you have an original Rhode/Triad Unimatic
trailer. If so, they were sold without straps in 1980 since the boat will
not easily come off the bunks, unless it is floating. These are float-on
style trailers without rollers (except for the centerboard.) For any other
style trailer, take proper precautions.
The newest GBI trailers have two pairs of strap tiedowns that are fitted
with yellow straps for the safety folks in the crowd, although I have my
doubts that they will stop the boat from leaving the trailer if suitably
determined (except floating.) See the picture at:
