No worries for us, Frank. The Rhodes 22 really is unsinkable. Katrina
ripped off my pop top and hatch and left my boat upside down in the lake.
She was ugly, but she was most definitely floating!
We've had a lot of list turnover since then. Here are the pictures, if
you're interested. I can't bear to look.

Frank,
Definitely agree. I checked on AT EASE after Saturday's blizzard and
she didn't even look like a Rhodes. The snow drifted a smooth hump over
the entire boat. The cockpit was beyond full and the cabintop and
foredeck looked like one continuous piece. That's a lot of snow. I'll
try to take some pictures if I ever get home again.
The good news is that she was floating high. The pulled-up rudder
wasn't even in the water. Even with all that heavy, wet snow; it
probably doesn't weigh as much as a well-nourished crew.

At the Washington Sailing Marina six boats have gone down, all with
cable-actuated swing keels. Apparently these have a keel/centerboard
housing that is just above the waterline and the weight of the snow
pushed
the boats down far enough so that water came in and sank the boats The
large cockpit area also made the boats vulnerable, since it collected
the
heavy snow. I assume the Rhodes22 setup is strong enough to withstand
the
extra pressure that heavy snow loads causes, but I would imagine it is
something to keep an eye on. We are completely snowed in here in the DC
area. Plenty of time to catch up on email.
