I saw the article too and was intrigued. It seemed to me that you could use the "mainster" inside the furling main, usinfg a spinnaker halyard - You might then unhook the clew of the main from the outhaul and just use that shackle to tie into the clew of the mainster. It is not a sail fo close-hauled work, bur on the beam or downwind, it seems to make a lot of sense. The R- 22 genoa is large enough to complement the mainster w/o going to a code 0 or asymmetrical, it seems to me.

Good Old Boat Magazine has an article about using a Mainsail made from
ripstop nylon for those light days. My favorite time to be out is in July
and August, but probably the worst time for wind. I wanted to make a sail
myself and this might be the perfect starter project. It also seems like a
good way to add more color to Serenity. Anyone have one and what size did
you use?
