Rummy,
The work involved in restoring that boat scares me. When you add the cost to that, the decision to strip and salvage what is usable sounds like a good one.
Their are individuals however who just love the challenge of restoring boats, more than they love the pleasure of sailing them.

Well, since the list has been quiet I thought I'd throw this at the group.
I went with some friends Tuesday to look at a 1950's vintage all wood
sailboat that someone was willing to give away. All we knew is that it was 35
feet long and needing restoration. Unfortunately, the hull is beyond
restoring and should probably be stripped of any and all hardware and burned. It's
always sad to see a boat deteriorate from neglect like this one has. I
expressed interest in the wooden mast if it is ever found.
Rummy
