Yeah, that's normally how a preventer is run (forward). It just has to be
able to run freely in case of a quick maneuver. I just pull a line up out
of the cleat on the vang and the boom is free to move to any position and if
the line were ever to tangle, I am there to fix it.
No pictures yet... Inclement weather down here the last few days.

If I'm sailing downwind for any length of time, I might from time to time
run a piece of line from the end of the boom, loop it around the bow cleat,
and bring it back to the cockpit. There's usually a spare cleat on the
cabin top that can hold it still. Although that doesn't pull straight down
on the boom, it does a reasonably fair job of keeping it down and it is
completely effective in preventing the accidental jibe.

You better patent it before you post pics or descriptions. That way you
can claim residuals due whenever someone copies it then sells
their boat here on the Rhodes 22 list. LOL
