Joe,

If you meant "How do I approach the dock?" David has it covered (under
power). If you get a good primer like "Sailing Fundamentals" by Jobson or
"Basic Keelboat" from US Sailing they have great instructions for
approaching under sail.

If you meant, "What is the best way to attach the boat to the dock?" my vote
is to use 1/2 inch lines. Use at least 4, and moor "side to" if you can
(better for loading and unloading). Check out the Grog's Knots web site and
learn to tie a bowline. If you can't moor "side to" I prefer to moor "bow
on" (harder to board, but protects the engine). 

You're in fat city with a floating dock as you won't have to worry about
rising and falling lake levels. 

Nice poem. Did I tell you I grew up only a few miles from the childhood
homes of the two greatest poets of our generation? Robert Pinsky and Bruce
Springsteen. Pinsky was from my home town of Long Branch, NJ and Springsteen
is from Freehold, NJ.
