[Rhodes22-list] running rigging...standard mainsail not IMF

Lee,

A cunningham is used to adjust sail shape as the wind gets stronger. You
pull down on the cunningham to move the draft forward. This is supposed to
help reduce heeling force. The downhaul is a quick method to reef the main.
By releasing the halyard and pulling on the downhaul you can lower the
mainsail about 18" on my boat effectively reefing the sail. I use a bolt
slid though a hole in the mast to keep the boom in the high position when at
anchor so the pop top can be raised. When sailing I remove the bolt to lower
the boom as needed. Including me there are 4 sailboats in my 250 boat
marina. I have never seen any of them on the water and I am there every
weekend. There are 3 other sailboats from the New York marina. One uses only
the genoa and has a canopy over the cockpit. One uses only the main. And one
uses both sails. So including myself there are 2 to 4 of us sailing types in
20 miles of lake.
