You will have access to and space in the laz regardless if you have the electric motor lift or not.  There is an access panel in the stern seating area.  Actually, a lot of space.      The boat will be in the water year 'round.  I am about two hours away, so not able to check after every rain. The boat, then, does NOT come with a bilge pump, I assume.  I will have to give the electric a consideration.  If it sinks, however, I will be in the mood to have words with GB. And if it doesn't sink, I will not have those words, but it will be a mess.  I don't have the electric motor lift, so no open space to the lazarette.  Where are the side ports? (yes, Joe's a friggin' dummy.)  Thanks fro the advice. It's a big help.

Are you keeping your boat in a slip and will you be close enough to check
the bilge every time it rains?

I've read that it's a good idea to have an electric bilge pump on any boat
kept in the water just in case it starts sinking.

If it's a hard blowing rain I almost always get water in my lazarette,
likely coming in through the slot for the belt for the motor lift.

If my boat is clean my side ports leak and I get water in my bilge.  If my
boat isn't clean the dirt seals the ports and I rarely get water in the
bilge.  Elton told me about this phenomenon and now I'm convinced.  I
haven't had water in my bilge in months and we've had some heavy rains. 
Some of the water may have evaporated elsewhere in the boat (cushions) but
the bilge has remained dry.

Because of evaporation my guess is that your bilge will never overflow.  Our
boats aren't very airtight (a good thing) so I doubt that you will suffer
from mildew problems.

Lots of rain on a leaky Rhodes could certainly cause problems and an
electric pump would give you peace of mind, but I'd start out pumpless to
see if you really need one.
