Lee,
I'm with you on this efficiency thing. The more efficient I am, the more
time I have for drinking. Hey, there's an idea. I think I'll have a drink and
get ready for the Indy 500. It must be noon somewhere.

Mike,
This might be bad advice but I don't put anti-freeze (or vodka) in my
plumbing. I don't keep my water tank full over the winter so there's enough
space for the ice to expand and I can't imagine the ice could possibly damage
the tank. Look at that sucker--it's literally built like a tank. The
first season the ice pushed the faucet off but it's designed to pop on and
off. I tilted in down so the water would drain out and it's never happened
again. Don't know about marine heads but if I had one I would certainly use
antifreeze before I'd pour vodka down a toilet.
The longer I own my boat the less unnecessary work I do on her. I no
longer tie pieces of line around the sails because the furling lines are
well-secured. I don't cover my opening hatches and don't sponge out the water
because they don't leak, yet. I don't clean off the front of my boat because
no one goes there and the wind blows off debris and the rain cleans off
the bird droppings. I don't even sponge out my bilge and lazarette all the
time because the evaporation doesn't create bad smells or other damage.
I try to keep my yard as nice at the other homes around me. When my boat
gets dirtier than the others docked around me I'll think about cleaning it.
I don't know where my wife gets this idea but she thinks I'm lazy. I
think that my extreme efficiency gives me more time for sailing.

With just a little bit of luck getting through the rest of my "honey-do"
list, I might get Muireann out for her shakedown tomorrow. Need to finish
a
couple of Spring commissioning tasks first, but not too many. Still have
anti-freeze in the plumbing, need to flush that; though that would keep for
a shakedown. Have a Garmin waiting to be installed, but that'll keep.
Need
to reseal some of the screws that secure the hand rails and hatch side
rails, got a little staining from leaks over the winter; should get that
done today. Need to get gas for the outboard.
Marine forecast for Lake Erie tomorrow is waves less than 2 feet and winds
less than 10 knots. Could wish for a little more wind, but not bad for a
shakedown.
Blue Heron - maybe we'll see you on the lake tomorrow!
